The Lord Was Here and I Knew Not

• By Gideon Adegunle

7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast. – Psalm 139:7-10

The statement, “The Lord was here and I knew not,” reflects a profound realization: God’s presence is often unnoticed or unappreciated, even though He is constantly at work in our lives. This is especially true in different areas such as family, work, and personal struggles. It speaks to those moments when we become aware of God’s presence in our lives, often after the fact, realizing that He was with us all along even when we were unaware of His presence.

There are seasons in life when God’s presence feels distant, even after we’ve walked in faith, prayed fervently, and trusted His promises. These are the stormy nights that test our resolve, the moments when the waves of life roar louder than His whispered assurances. Yet, the Psalms remind us: “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.” (Psalm 42:11)

Even when He seems silent, God is actively shaping our faith to help us see beyond the storm.

1. The Lord Was in My Family and I Knew Not

In our daily lives, it is easy to overlook how God works within the framework of our family. We may fail to recognize His hand in the love, support, and protection we receive from those around us. Whether it’s the comfort of a parent’s embrace, the guidance of a sibling, or the unconditional love that binds families together, these moments are often evidence of God’s presence even when we might take them for granted. Our families, in their love and unity, can be a reflection of God’s heart for us, a reminder that He is always near, even in the seemingly ordinary moments of life.

2. The Lord Was in My Faith Journey and I Knew Not

Throughout our lives, we may look back and realize that our faith journey wasn’t as disconnected or random as it seemed. Even when we didn’t fully recognize it, God was guiding us along the way.

  • In moments of doubt, He was strengthening our resolve.

  • In periods of growth, He was shaping us into the person He designed us to be.

  • In seasons of spiritual dryness, He was still present, working beneath the surface, preparing us for the next chapter of our lives.

Our faith journey is often a winding road, and when we reflect on it, we can see how God’s presence was there all along even during times we felt lost or distant from Him.

3. The Lord Was in My Struggles and I Knew Not

Many times, when we face difficulties, be it financial struggles, health problems, or personal battles, we feel isolated, abandoned, and alone. But often, it is in these struggles that God is closest to us, even if we cannot perceive His presence.

  • The perseverance to keep going despite the hardships is a sign of His strength within us.

  • The peace that surpasses understanding, even when everything around us seems to be falling apart, is evidence of His presence.

  • The lessons learned through these trials serve to strengthen our faith and build our character.

In these moments, God’s presence is often seen not in a grand manifestation, but in the subtle transformation that occurs within us, molding us through the struggle into something stronger and more aligned with His will.

In Conclusion

No matter the clouds of doubt or the absence of manifestations, remember that God is nearer to you than your very breath. It’s essential to look beyond these uncertainties and focus on Jesus, the author and perfecter of the life at work in you.

God is deeply invested in your prosperity He delights in seeing you shine brighter and grow bigger. His presence is always here, guiding you into all truth. However, for this to unfold fully in your life, your mind must align with a steady and consistent belief that God is with you every step of the way.

Keep trusting. Keep believing. And watch as He leads you into the fullness of His plans for your life.

Nevertheless at Thy Word

There are moments when our experiences seem to contradict what our God is saying. We have tried, waited, prayed, and laboured, yet the expected result has not come. In such moments, faith is tested not necessarily by whether we believe God can act, but by whether we are willing to act on His Word despite what we have experienced before.

Emergence of Champions

The emergence of champions is connected to divine empowerment (The anointing and power of God). As a believer your assignment and purpose on earth is not to come and be healed or delivered on earth but to rain as a more than a conqueror. Never are you limited by your beginning, your ultimate beginning was when God himself predestined you as his own so reign and emerge always as a champion.

Faith: Unseen Manifestation

Many of God’s promises begin in the unseen before they become visible in our lives. Faith gives us the confidence to embrace those promises, walk according to them, and wait patiently for their manifestation. What cannot yet be seen can still be real when it rests upon the Word of God.
