The Whole Armour of God

The Whole Armour of God

The Whole Armour of God

• By Gideon Adegunle

Ephesians 6:10-18 (NIV)

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

Job 14:1-2 reminds us that life is short and full of trouble. We feel it, don’t we? Some carry the weight of past mistakes, the heavy chain of unforgiveness, and the exhausting battle against both internal and external spiritual forces. Many Christians today are fighting this battle and feeling defeated. They’ve been wounded, their sense of authority has faded, and even their worship has become a struggle. Their spiritual weapons feel misplaced, and their vision for God’s purpose has grown dim.

If this describes your spiritual state, then you are the very reason the Apostle Paul wrote Ephesians 6:10-18. This passage is God’s answer to our weariness and wounds. It is a direct call to stop fighting in our own broken strength and to finally strap on the only armor that can protect, empower, and lead us to victory. It’s time to remember who we are in Christ and to stand firm in the deliverance He promises.

The Six Pieces of the Whole Armor of God

The armor of God is made up of both defensive and offensive weapons. They are six in number:

  1. The Belt of Truth

  2. The Breastplate of Righteousness

  3. The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace

  4. The Shield of Faith

  5. The Helmet of Salvation

  6. The Sword of the Spirit

The Power of Prayer

Ephesians 6:18 emphasizes on prayer – urging us to pray on all occasions, with all kinds of prayers and requests. The weapons of our warfare cannot be effective unless prayer becomes our habit. Prayer fuels and activates the armor, making it potent in our daily walk and spiritual battles.

Moving Forward

We will be exploring the Whole Armor of God in two parts to understand what each piece represents, and how to effectively use them in spiritual warfare and growth.

Conclusion

God has not given us passive or defensive weapons alone. He has provided us with the very same weapon Jesus Christ used to defeat sin, hell, death, and the grave. Our responsibility is to put them on daily, to leverage them, and to become effective in their use. Victory in Christ is not optional – it is promised to those who stand firm, fully armored in God.

The Fear of Defeat: How God Leads Believers from Fear to Victory Through Spiritual Maturity

Fear of defeat is one of the greatest challenges that believers face in their journey of faith. It is the fear that comes when circumstances, challenges, weaknesses, or opposition appear greater than God’s ability to deliver. It can cause believers to doubt God’s promises, question their identity, and hesitate in fulfilling His purpose.
