Always Have Room for More

• By Gideon Adegunle

2. Elisha asked her, “What do you have in your house?”
She replied, “I have nothing except a small jar of oil.”

3. He said, “Go to your neighbors and borrow many empty jars—don’t gather just a few.”

4. “Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars. As each one is filled, set it aside.”

Kings 4:1-7

One of the greatest lessons from the story of the widow’s oil is this: Need creates room for God’s supply. God fills the spaces we create. He responds to hunger, expectation, and obedience. Jesus Himself said, “Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.” To receive the “more” God has for you, you must intentionally create room for it.

Below are 5 powerful ways to create room for more.

1. EMPTY YOURSELF OF LIMITING MINDSETS

Many believers are overflowing with:

  • Fear
  • Past hurts
  • Small thinking
  • Doubt
  • Local, limited perspectives

But God cannot fill a cup that is already full of negative beliefs. Every day, ask God to renew your mind so He can pour fresh ideas, fresh faith, and fresh opportunities into you. A meek and teachable heart is the vessel God easily fills.

Romans 12:2 — “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” When your mind expands, your room for “more” expands.

2. OBEY EVEN WHEN IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE

Obedience is the master key to divine increase. In Luke 5:4-6, Peter, despite his experience as a fisherman he obeyed Jesus’ instruction to cast his net again, and it resulted in supernatural abundance.

The widow in 2 Kings 4 was told to borrow empty vessels. Nothing about that instruction made sense, yet she obeyed completely.
She understood how the prophetic works, she had been a servant in Elisha’s household. She knew that instant obedience activates prophecy. Your “more” is tied to your obedience.
When God nudges you to pray, sow, forgive, apply again, start again just obey immediately.

3. PREPARE CAPACITY IN ADVANCE

Many people focus only on surviving today and fail to build for the future. But capacity must come before advancement.

A farmer prepares the ground before the rain falls. The widow gathered vessels before the oil began to flow. It is always too late to create capacity when your visitation arrives.

If you are going somewhere in life:

  • Study more
  • Plan bigger
  • Enlarge your vision
  • Stretch your faith

Prepare the space for what God wants to do.
God fills only what you make available.

4. SHUT THE DOOR TO DISTRACTIONS

Elisha told the widow, “Shut the door upon you and your sons.”
Why? Some miracles require: Privacy, Focus, Sensitivity and Intimacy with God.

If you want to walk in the supernatural, you must learn to: Cut off unhealthy conversations, reduce gossip and comparison, guard your heart and embrace seasons of quietness and prayer

Closed doors create room for open heavens.

5. RELEASE WHAT YOU HAVE TO RECEIVE WHAT YOU NEED

Even God demonstrated this principle when He gave His Son to receive us. The Holy Spirit was giving when prayers placed a  demand.

The law of receiving is anchored in giving.

John 6:9-11:  A boy’s small lunch fed thousands when he released it.
Proverbs 11:24  “There is he that scattereth, and yet increaseth.”

You cannot take hold of new things if your hands are tightly closed around old things. The widow released her last oil into empty jars—and multiplication began. So: give, share, serve, sow, help someone God multiplies only what you release.
Don’t be the person who always asks for more but gives nothing!

Conclusion

God comes to the room you create for Him.

Empty your mind, obey quickly, prepare capacity, shut distractions out, and release what you have. Then you will see the “oil” of God flow in unstoppable measure.

The Fear of Defeat: How God Leads Believers from Fear to Victory Through Spiritual Maturity

Fear of defeat is one of the greatest challenges that believers face in their journey of faith. It is the fear that comes when circumstances, challenges, weaknesses, or opposition appear greater than God’s ability to deliver. It can cause believers to doubt God’s promises, question their identity, and hesitate in fulfilling His purpose.
