The Four Key Worship Expressions (Part 2)

• By Gideon Adegunle

Day and night they never stop saying: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.’ Revelation 4:8

In Part 1, we established that worship is more than music, it is a posture of life flowing from spirit, soul, and truth.

In this second part, we now examine four key expressions of worship revealed in Scripture and symbolized by the four living creatures in Revelation 4.

These expressions show how redeemed humanity responds to God in fullness.

  1. Worship as Dominion – The Lion. The lion represents authority, kingship, and dominion.

“The lion which is strongest among beasts and turneth not away for any.” – Proverbs 30:30

Worship as dominion is acknowledging God’s absolute rule and aligning ourselves under His authority.

This expression of worship says: God reigns, and I submit.

It is worship expressed through:

  • Obedience
  • Alignment with God’s will
  • Standing firm in righteousness
  • Exercising spiritual authority under God

This is not loud praise it is yielded governance.

A believer who lives under God’s rule worships Him daily by choices, discipline, and submission.

“The Lord reigneth; let the earth rejoice.” – Psalm 97:1

2. Worship as Sacrifice – The Calf (Ox)

The calf or ox symbolizes service, labor, and sacrifice.

“Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” – Romans 12:1

This dimension of worship is expressed through:

  • Service to God and others.
  • Giving-time, strength, resources.
  • Endurance and faithfulness.
  • Dying to self

The ox works patiently, often unseen.

Worship here is not emotional-it is costly.

True worship is proven when obedience remains even when:

  • It is inconvenient.
  • It is tiring.
  • There is no applause

This is the worship of those who carry God’s burden faithfully.

3. Worship as Communion – The Man

The face of a man represents relationship, understanding, and fellowship.

“God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son.” – 1 Corinthians 1:9

This expression of worship is intimate and relational.

It flows from:

  • Prayer
  • Fellowship
  • Listening to God
  • Walking with Him daily

Here, worship is not activity-it is companionship.

God desires not only servants and subjects, but sons and friends.

“Truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” – 1 John 1:3

Without communion, other expressions become empty routines.

4. Worship as Ascension – The Eagle

The eagle symbolizes spiritual elevation, vision, and transcendence.

“They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles.” – Isaiah 40:31

This is worship that rises above the natural realm into the spiritual.

It is expressed through:

  • Praise
  • Adoration
  • Spiritual songs
  • Deep encounters with God

The eagle sees from above.

This dimension of worship lifts the soul beyond circumstance and fixes the gaze on God’s glory.

Here, worship becomes revelatory, drawing the believer into heavenly perspective.

Bringing It All Together

True worship is complete only when all four expressions are present:

  • The Lion: submission to God’s rule.
  • The Ox: sacrificial service.
  • The Man: intimate communion.
  • The Eagle: spiritual ascension

Revelation 4 shows that heaven never stops worshipping because worship is not an event-it is an eternal posture.

Worship is not what we do occasionally. It is who we become continually.

When spirit, soul, truth, obedience, service, intimacy, and praise align, worship becomes a living reality on earth as it is in heaven.

The Fear of Defeat: How God Leads Believers from Fear to Victory Through Spiritual Maturity

Fear of defeat is one of the greatest challenges that believers face in their journey of faith. It is the fear that comes when circumstances, challenges, weaknesses, or opposition appear greater than God’s ability to deliver. It can cause believers to doubt God’s promises, question their identity, and hesitate in fulfilling His purpose.
