Setting a Spiritual Alarm

• By Gideon Adegunle

Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. – Matthew 26:41

Introduction

Just as we set physical alarms to wake us for important appointments, every believer must learn to set a spiritual alarm. It is the intentional decision to remain spiritually awake, watchful, and responsive to God. Spiritual growth does not happen by chance; it is the result of consistently seeking God through prayer, His Word, and obedience. A believer who is spiritually alert is better positioned to hear God’s voice, resist temptation, and walk in His purpose.

The Importance of Setting a Spiritual Alarm

1. It Deepens Your Fellowship with God

A spiritual alarm creates room for daily communion with God. As we consistently spend time in His presence, our relationship with Him grows stronger, and our hearts become more like Christ.

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. – James 4:8

2. It Builds Spiritual Sensitivity

God continually speaks and leads His children through the Holy Spirit. A spiritually alert believer recognizes His promptings and responds with obedience, avoiding the distractions that weaken spiritual growth.

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. – Revelation 2:7

3. It Strengthens You Against Temptation

Jesus emphasized the importance of watchfulness because prayer strengthens the inner man. A believer who remains spiritually awake is better equipped to overcome the attacks of the enemy and the desires of the flesh.

Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. – Matthew 26:41

4. It Prepares You for Divine Assignments

God often reveals His plans to those who seek Him diligently. A life of spiritual alertness keeps the believer ready to receive direction, wisdom, and strength for every assignment He gives.

Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know. – Jeremiah 33:3

Conclusion

Setting a spiritual alarm is more than waking up early to pray; it is cultivating a lifestyle of spiritual vigilance and intimacy with God. As we intentionally seek Him, remain sensitive to the Holy Spirit, and faithfully obey His Word, we grow in grace and become effective instruments in His Kingdom. May we never become spiritually asleep, but remain watchful, steadfast, and ready for every divine opportunity. As we daily set our hearts toward God, may He continually awaken us to deeper fellowship, greater spiritual maturity, and a life that brings glory to His name. Amen.

Nevertheless at Thy Word

There are moments when our experiences seem to contradict what our God is saying. We have tried, waited, prayed, and laboured, yet the expected result has not come. In such moments, faith is tested not necessarily by whether we believe God can act, but by whether we are willing to act on His Word despite what we have experienced before.

Emergence of Champions

The emergence of champions is connected to divine empowerment (The anointing and power of God). As a believer your assignment and purpose on earth is not to come and be healed or delivered on earth but to rain as a more than a conqueror. Never are you limited by your beginning, your ultimate beginning was when God himself predestined you as his own so reign and emerge always as a champion.

Faith: Unseen Manifestation

Many of God’s promises begin in the unseen before they become visible in our lives. Faith gives us the confidence to embrace those promises, walk according to them, and wait patiently for their manifestation. What cannot yet be seen can still be real when it rests upon the Word of God.
