When Power Is on Your Side

• By Gideon Adegunle

If God be for us, who can be against us? – Romans 8:31

Introduction

God is the only and eternal embodiment of power and might. His display of might works and wonders throughout time is inexhaustible. But as believers in the moments of life when the opposition before us appears greater than the strength within us. We look at the circumstances, the obstacles, the people standing against us, and the limitations around us, and we begin to calculate our chances of success based on what we can see.

The (God) power backing you is greater than the power standing against you.

What Does “When Power Is on Your Side” Mean?

1. God’s Presence Changes the Way You See Opposition

In 2 Kings 6, the servant of Elisha woke up and discovered that the city was surrounded by the Syrian army. Fear immediately took over him. “Alas, my master! how shall we do?” – 2 Kings 6:15 But Elisha saw something different. “Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.” – 2 Kings 6:16

The army surrounding them was real, but it was not the whole picture. Elisha prayed that God would open his servant’s eyes, and when his eyes were opened, he saw the mountain full of horses and chariots of fire. Sometimes the problem is not that God is not with us; it is that we are looking only at what is visible.

2. God’s Power Is Greater Than Your Limitations

David was not the strongest man in Israel. He was not the largest soldier. He did not possess the weapons Goliath possessed. Yet David understood something that most Israelite soldiers did not understand: the battle was not dependent on David’s strength alone. “Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts…” – 1 Samuel 17:45

David’s confidence was not in himself. His confidence was in the One who stood behind him. Goliath measured David by his appearance. David measured Goliath by the greatness of his God. There are moments when we focus so much on what we lack that we forget who is with us. You may lack resources, experience, influence, or strength, but your limitation does not limit God.

3. God’s Power Can Make a Way Where There Is No Way

Israel stood before the Red Sea with nowhere to go. Pharaoh’s army was approaching from behind, while the sea stood before them. Moses told them: “The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” – Exodus 14:14 There was no human strategy that could solve their situation. They needed divine intervention.

4. God’s Power Can Turn the Battle You Cannot Fight Into a Victory You Could Not Manufacture

In 2 Chronicles 20, a great multitude came against Jehoshaphat and Judah. The situation was beyond their military strength. Jehoshaphat sought the Lord, and God gave them an unusual instruction: “Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD…” – 2 Chronicles 20:17

Judah went out praising God, and the Lord caused confusion among their enemies until they destroyed one another. The victory did not come because Judah suddenly became stronger than their enemies. The victory came because God fought on their behalf.

Conclusion

The presence of opposition does not mean the absence of God. This does not mean that believers will never face difficulties. It means that no opposition is greater than the God who stands with us. So do not measure your future only by your strength. Do not measure your possibilities only by your resources. Do not measure your victory only by what you can see. Look at who is with you.

Fallen angels and fallen humanity share important similarities in their created nature, disobedience, and accountability to God. Yet Scripture reveals a significant distinction: redemption for humanity through Jesus Christ. This study explores the biblical similarities between their falls and the significance of God’s grace toward mankind.

Same Situation, Different Approach

Sometimes, the challenge is not the situation itself but how we respond to it. Through Peter’s experience in Luke 5:4-6, we learn to seek God’s direction, examine our methods, and embrace necessary changes without compromising our faith.

Vague Expectation

Vague Expectation, Faith should have a clear direction, even when the method and timing of the answer remain in God’s hands. Definite expectation identifies the need, presents it to God, prepares responsibly and remains attentive to His direction. God does not require us to understand every detail before we pray. However, when clarity is available, we should not hide indecision behind spiritual language.
